Below is an excerpt from the first chapter of Peter Benchley's
Jaws. See how it grabs you [oh!-ed.]
OH! Man, gets you into the story pretty quickly... This 1974 tale of a Cape Cod island was changed slightly for the movie (the humans are more flawed, slightly different ending) but still, pretty high test stuff for beach reading. Not as easy as I thought to find a copy around, you might even have to go to the library to get it...

I remember reading that book one summer on Cape Cod about 20 years ago. I put it down that afternoon and went surfing. I have been scanning the water for sharks ever since.
@randall think this was the first grown up book i ever read. that and Dr.No. Both at my grandpas house. good stuff!
gup! a wave of anxiety just rushed over me remembering how scared i was of any body of water(including the bathtub) after seeing this movie as a kid! i'm looking for the book today to revisit this lifelong fear i've had of the deep.
Great book. And The Island aint bad either.
